129th Water Service Improvement Project
Posted Date: 3/20/2017 11:30 AM

A vintage 1950's cast iron water main in 129th Avenue has been plagued by a series of main breaks in recent years and the breaks are becoming more frequent as time goes on.  Cast iron was a common pipe material at the time the main was installed, however, it is characteristically much more brittle than newer materials making it more prone to breakage.  Repeated main breaks are not only an inconvenience for customers, but they are also costly to the agency in terms of overtime pay and the higher costs associated with emergency repairs.  Until recent modifications to a pump station were completed it was not possible to remove the aged main from service.  Now that those improvements have been completed, the agency is moving with speed to transition customers to the newer main.  To read more about the project, including expected construction timelines click here.
